Fam🥰💃, it’s been a beautiful week over here. How was your week, too? Any gist for me?😂 I will be waiting to hear it. So, this week, we are doing something great and different. It’s an interview with a fantastic author, Tope Omotosho. Come, with me.
Meet Tope Omotosho
Tope Omotosho is a believer in Jesus Christ. She aims at writing His heart and is interested in pleasing Him first. She is a wife and mother of two. She’s an author and is passionate about impacting the world through her thought-provoking stories and bringing people to the knowledge of God’s true and unfailing love.
Her stories and articles cut across love, relationship and romance in a way that does not deny the relevance of God in our everyday life.
TemidayoRiches: Yaay💃. You know so much about her already. Let’s dive into the interview.😁
If you have read any of Tope Omotosho’s books, you will agree with me that she does her research well.
Question: What kind of research do you do and how long do you spend researching before you write?
Tope Omotosho: Smiles. I research by reading and surfing the internet. While writing Love Me Again I had to purchase a book and I had like twenty or more tabs open on my laptop to check and cross-check information I found. Have different people’s views on it and collate all that to have an idea of how my characters should be like.
I usually spend an hour or so before writing but the research never stops. There’s always an I to dot and at to cross. So I’ll say the research goes on till the end of the book.
TemidayoRiches: Wow. That’s great. Writing sure requires research. Thanks for putting in the work to give us masterpieces.
Question : How do you pick names for your characters?
Tope Omotosho: Well, I like to look up names. And sometimes when I meet new people I tend to ask them the meaning of their names and tell them to spell it for me. But I explain to them that I’m an author and I might use their name in a book. Also, I need to feel that the name connects with the character.
TemidayoRiches: This is amazing. Writers should take note of this, too. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Question: Who are some of your favourite authors?
Tope Omotosho: Karen Kingsbury, Francine Rivers, Nicole Deese, T.L Gray, Becky Wade… The list goes on.
Question: When did you know you wanted to become a writer and how did you begin the journey?
Tope Omotosho: I didn’t always know I would be a writer. I didn’t know ten years ago that I would be doing this. I had a blog and I was content with writing articles and blog stories. All I wanted to do was let my blog, www.lifegodandlove.com, get more exposure. I knew I wanted to write Christian content but I wasn’t so sure about writing a novel because I didn’t know how to go about it. I was still trying to get the hang of writing and the thought of writing a novel of so many thousand words looked like a huge amount of work.
But down the line, things changed and I wrote the first edition of ‘With These Shoes I Thee Wed’. It felt great finishing a book. But there was still a lot of work to be done on it.
TemidayoRiches: Every beautiful thing starts somewhere. Thanks for taking the blog series a step further.
Question: You have created many wonderful characters, can you tell us which character impacted you the most?
Tope Omotosho: Smiles. Tahira. She may be a fictional character, but I’m amazed at her strength.
TemidayoRiches : Wow. Tahira is indeed full of strength. Thank you for taking time out for this interview. It was impactful.
Tope Omotosho: My pleasure
