Life is beautiful but there are times when it seems things are not working the way we want them to work. At such times, we must make a decision to be happy, stay happy and joyful.
Happiness is an emotion but Joy is deeper. This is the reason people have mood swing. At a moment, they are happy and they feel they are ready to take on the world but in few minutes later, they are in a very bad mood.
Personally, I have discovered that our temperaments have a way of influencing us until we submit it to the Holy Spirit. When I finished Secondary School, my family members were quick to tell me how often I get annoyed and moody.
One of the books that helped me was The Spirit Controlled Temperament by Tim Lahaye. From this book, I saw my natural tendencies and I began to work on them through the help of the Holy Spirit. I can’t say I have gotten there now but I am getting better. If you discover you have mood swings, I will recommend this book to you. It helped me a lot.
Yeah, today’s discussion is centered on How to be happy and remain happy or better put, how to be joyful and remain joyful. Please note that the list is not limited to these ones. Let’s go:
1. Count your blessings:
The song count your blessings is so true. You will be surprised at how much God has done for you. As this year comes to an end, write down those things God has done for you, those things you are grateful for and go over the list over and over again, it will help you to retain your joy.
Last week, I had a discussion with my elder sister and the basis of the discussion was that as humans, we have the tendency to be selfish when we consider our needs all the time. Do you know so many people need you? Yes, you have something to give. Go out of your way to help others and you will be more grateful. Some people don’t even have what you have. Ignore your problems and help others.
Worry steals the moment from us. Learn to intentionally cast your cares on God. I was a worrier,I could worry about so many things at the same time but I read a book by E.W Hagin, HOW NOT TO WORRY. From that book, I learnt that I can go on my knees and tell God about the issue that is getting me worried and just drop them with him.
4. Avoid Comparison:
You’re YOUniqie. Permit my use of words, you are unique in your own way. Don’t compare yourself. (1 Corinthians 10:12).
5. Make Friends, not enemies:
We need each other. When a burden is shared with the right set of people, it brings comfort. Spend time with good and godly friends.
6. Trust God and Rejoice: Sing, praise God, do things that make you joyful. Real Joy is found in Jesus. Keep an intimate relationship with Him. He loves you and He cares for you. Trust Him
