Perfect Match (Episodes 1 and 2)

EPISODE ONE

“Mum, are you kidding me? You are joking right?”

“No, I am not. This Lady will make a good wife for you. She loves the Lord and I feel strongly that she will do you good. I just want you to be friends with her and if she is the one, it gets better. The least you can do is pray about it.”

“Mum, I know this is coming from a place of genuine care but I can get a woman for myself by myself. I don’t know when you started a matchmaking outfit”

“I also struggled with the thought myself. Just promise me to pray about it and permit me to send you her number”

Banji did a few calculations and knows that the easiest way out of the discussion is to indulge his Mum and get the lady’s number even if he won’t save it on his phone,

“Okay, Mum. You can send it and I will also look into it. Is that all? I need to go, I have a visitor”

“Okay. Thank you, dear. I love you”

“I love you too, Mum. Bye”

Olabanji looked at the phone in his hands for a while, chuckled and entered the living room through the screen door.

“Sorry, that took a while. It was my Mum”

“Oh! Mama Adamson herself, how is she? Hope all is well at home?”

“Yeah, she is doing so well that she is thinking of matchmaking me with a lady in her church back at home”

“Oh really? That’s interesting. Have you met her? Are you guys game now?”

“Chill bro. Nobody is gaming anybody. I told Mum that I will think about it. The end”

“Never say never bro, she might be the one”

Olabanji looked at his friend disdainfully but swallowed his reply. Marcus wouldn’t understand his journey. The last thing Banji wants is to get into another long-distance relationship after Anita broke his heart on Facebook.

Ciara was supposed to be the ‘take home to mama’ girl but she was snatched by Mr Benson. Olabanji was not really hurt as he couldn’t love Ciara the way he loved Anita. If not for God and his pastor, he would have run mad when his woman of seven years returned the money he sent for her visa processing the same day she uploaded her wedding pictures on Facebook.

“Bro, Don’t tell me you are giving up on love, that would be like giving up on God ‘cos God is love. God still has godly women oh! and Mama Adamson’s church babe may be one of them”

“I hear you, bro. Let’s order pizza”

EPISODE TWO

Sunday Service at Hope Chapel International Ministry just ended and brethren are scattered in and around the church chatting and talking. The Auditorium looked colourful and worshippers, dressed in beautiful attire filled the church.

Rose stood at the left side of the church and scanned the room for her friend, Desire. She saw her at the back of the church chatting with some other members of the church. She picked up her bag and started walking towards her friend.

Rose and Desire already planned to hang out after church and continue her wedding planning. Rose kept looking here and there as she walked towards her friend.

“Alright, I will see you all next Sunday.” Desire dismissed the ladies in time to meet up with Rose.

“What is that meeting about? I have been waiting for you, let’s go joor”

“It’s the meeting for our singles’ hangout planning committee, I still don’t know why you excused yourself from the committee. Anyway, I did not know you were waiting for me, I thought you were supposed to have a meeting with your overseer after service before we go out”

“Yes, I do. But, Mama Adamson will just keep asking me about marriage again and I am not really in the mood for such questions”

Desire looked at her friend and felt compassion for her. Even though Rose is maximizing her single time and serving the Lord diligently, the waiting period is beginning to take a toll on her. No one could have thought she would survive her broken relationship about three years ago but she bounced back and only started to get irritated recently, especially after she attended one of her protégé’s wedding.

“You know we are in this together, right? But when we joined this church, we committed to learning and growth. We willingly accepted these older women as our overseers and mentors, teaching us the way to go as single ladies, so…talk about the angel”

“Rose! Desire!”

Mama Adamson walked towards the two young ladies and they turned to walk towards her smiling broadly.

“Good afternoon, ma”

“Happy Sunday, my daughters. How are you doing?”

“We are very well, thank you ma”

“I apologise for delaying you, Rose. I had an impromptu meeting with Pastor Mrs. Can we talk now or are you ladies in haste?”

“Ha! Mama, it’s fine ma. I will wait for her”

Desire left the gathering and went to another side of the church to sit. Mama Adamson and Rose sat down to talk.

“I don’t want to take your time, so I will go straight to the point. I know we still have our review meeting later in the month. Rose, I need you to do something for me”

“Okay ma, what could that be ma?”

“I want to ask if I can share your contact details with my Son, Olabanji. He lives abroad and I believe strongly that the two of you could be friends. Also, I want him to be able to reach me through you, in case my lines are not reachable”

Rose’s Stomach turned and she felt nauseated at the thought of being matched with Mama Adamson’s son. Did the Senior Pastor give the overseers an ultimatum to get their wards married or what is it with Mama and getting her someone? Rose decided to give Mama a piece of her mind once and for all.

“Ma, In as much as..”

“Wait, Rose, before you answer, my son having your number has nothing to do with our last discussion. The Holy Spirit has instructed me to stop asking you questions and just bear you up in prayers. I want you to know that I love you as my daughter and I will not stop praying until the will of God is done in your life.”

Rose’s eyes welled up as she saw the sincerity and love in Mama Adamson’s eyes.

“Okay, ma. You can give him. Thank you for praying for me, ma”

“You are welcome”
