Perfect Match (Finale)

EPISODE NINE

It has been three good months of a long-distance relationship. Rose couldn’t be happier. She smiled broadly as she remembered the journey so far. She had taken the proposal into prayers, shared the details with her Mum, talked to her mentor, and asked Desire to join her in prayers too.

Olabanji has proven that God works in mighty ways. The love, support and strong spiritual leadership displayed so far in the relationship have dispelled Rose’s fear.

“Hello, Rose…yeah…oh I am on my way to Mama Adamson’s house. BJ got me to Surprise her with a little family get-together….oh! I am just two streets away…what…I can’t hear you…I should call you after the surprise. Okay, I will…Bye.”

Rose had recruited Mama Olabanji’s Housekeeper to join her in decorating the living room immediately Mama left for the workers’ meeting in the church that Saturday morning. The taxi cab stopped inside the compound and Rose carried the cake into the living room.

“Aunty, welcome.”

“Thank you, Sarah. Everything is set. Now, you go and freshen up, she will soon be here with her friends. I will wait here”

Sarah left Rose in the decorated living room and Rose sat down to rest and check through her messages. She took a picture of the setting and sent it to Olabanji via WhatsApp

“Hey Babe, all is set. We are just waiting for Mama to return from church.

An immediate reply came in

Yes, I can see it.”

Rose was about to reply to him when the light in the living room went off. She stood up to draw the window blinds and put off the socket when she heard a familiar voice calling;

“My Rose”

She stood still at the familiar voice and the name specially trademarked for a certain man. She turned and immediately the light came on revealing a tall, dark, and handsome man standing at the entrance to the dinning area.

“Olabanji”

“In flesh and blood. I am so happy to see you, my darling”

“How did you…but you said your leave application was…when…how…”

Olabanji did not allow her to finish the questions when he closed the gap between them and took her in a hug.

“You are not serious at all. I still can believe that you are here. Did Mama know you are around and the birthday plans?”

“Yes, I came in Yesterday morning and I came home straight. She knows that there is a small get-together for her here.”

“So I was actually planning my own…”

“Surprise. Oh! I am so glad to see you in person. You look so beautiful”

“What did you expect? Any regret?”

“None. God’s gift is perfect. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

EPILOGUE

“I still cannot believe that Olabanji has been around for three weeks and you people have not had time to sit and talk”

“What can I say, between Work in the office, our Anniversary outreach at Home for All, the International Women’s Conference planning committee and BJ’s outreach to the North, we had our hands full. The funny thing is we see at every event but we have been working round the clock, there has been no ‘us’ time”

“Hmmn, it is well. I am glad that you guys are going out tonight even if it means you leaving my pregnant self to myself. Is he picking you up?”

“Nope, He’s sending a car. Which is outside already. Feel at home and don’t miss me”

“I won’t, Madam. I am looking forward to returning to my house when my husband returns.”

Rose put the finishing touch to her makeup and turned to face Desire

“How do I look?”

“Amazing, my heart is bursting with happiness for you. Come here, give me a warm hug”

Rose wondered why her friend was shedding tears but quickly dismissed it as pregnancy hormones at work.  She stepped out after the hug and the car sped off to the place where they had their physical first date a few months ago when Olabanji paid her a surprise first visit.

She was still lost when her phone rang.

“Hello, mummy…yes ma…No ma, I am not at home…okay, and I will send it as soon as I get home.”

She wondered why Mama Adamson called and ask for a detail she had already shared with her. She shrugged it off and alighted from the car.

The place looked deserted except for a man that directed her to the reserved garden area of the resort.

She saw some light in the distance and her beloved waving at her. She kept walking towards him until a four-sheet poster dropped before her, bearing a message

“WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

She stood in shock, as a glass of tears covered her eyes.

Olabanji walked towards the woman with whom he chose to spend the rest of his life.

“Olayemi, Rose Olamide, You are my perfect Match, made by God, orchestrated by my Mum and gifted to me. Will you permit me to love you like Christ loved the church all the days of my life?”

And it all made sense. Desire tears, Mama Adamson’s call to check up on her and ask random questions and years of waiting.

“Oh my God, Yes… I will…Yes…”

Olabanji put the ring on her finger before taking her in a hug.

“I love you.”

“I love you too, my Rose, my perfect match.”

And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (Genesis 2:20-23)
